Frozen pasta

Prepared frozen meals comprising pasta are becoming popular as a convenience food. Frozen pasta, which often comes in a microwavable container, is even quicker and easier to cook than dry pasta and requires little cleanup.

Frozen pasta, cooked directly from the freezer, will take 4 to 6 minutes. Commercial pasta will take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes of boiling.

Freezing actually makes fresh pasta cook up better. When submerged in simmering water, the frozen pasta does not absorb as much liquid as would just-made pasta.

Gluten strength properties and color are likely to be important considerations in these pre-cooked frozen products.

Pasta holds its shape without expanding so much that it becomes flabby, and its flavour does not become diluted with excess water.
